Limpopo Provincial Commissioner welcomes the arrest of three suspects linked to business robberies in Thohoyandou

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members of Thohoyandou Crime Intelligence Unit and Vhembe District Trio Task Team for the breakthrough in arresting three suspects linked to a number of robberies in Thohoyandou policing precinct.

The suspects were arrested at Itsani Ha-Mugumo and Manini Ha-Tshikovha villages respectively in the early hours of today, Thursday 20 July 2023 at about 03:00, following an intelligence driven joint operation. The suspects were sought in connection with the business robbery that took place at Sabina complex earlier this month (July) where they made off with undisclosed amount of cash, airtime vouchers, cellphones and cigarettes. One suspect was reportedly armed with a firearm and the suspects utilised two vehicles during the robbery.

During the arrest, Police confiscated the two vehicles, a Toyota Yaris and Renault Triber. Further Investigations positively linked the suspects with three other business robberies committed in Thohoyandou. In one of the incidents that occurred last month (June), the owner of the shop was shot and wounded.

“This is a clear indication that our members are working around the clock to ensure the safety of the residents of this Province including the business community. Our ongoing operations will ensure criminals feel the heat and are put behind bars where they belong,” concluded Liutentenat General Hadebe.

The three suspects aged between 20 and 22 will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Friday 21 July 2023 facing four counts of business robbery.
