Agricultural Boost and Media Reopening Focus in Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU — This Tuesday in Burkina Faso, significant developments in agriculture and media dominated the news cycle, as reported by local newspapers. Key topics included the large-scale distribution of farming equipment and the reopening of Savane Media following a tax settlement.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the government facilitated a substantial investment in agriculture by distributing 400 tractors, 239 motor cultivators, and 710 motor pumps to local farmers. The initiative, part of a broader aim to achieve food self-sufficiency, involved equipment worth approximately 78.293 billion FCFA. The handover ceremony underscored the government’s support for producers to enhance agricultural yields.

In media news, Observateur Paalga reported that the Head of State has encouraged youth involvement in agriculture, advocating for the formation of cooperatives to leverage governmental support. Additionally, after settling a significant portion of its outstanding tax obligations, Savane Media resumed operations. The private broadcaster made a payment of 25% of the 300 million FCFA owed, with arrangements to cover the remainder in installments.

Meanwhile, Le Pays highlighted that the equipment provided will be particularly useful during the rainy season, as the tractors will be available for plowing at no cost. This effort is complemented by subsidized inputs to further ease access for producers.

Furthermore, Savane Media is preparing to relaunch its programming soon after the temporary shutdown due to tax issues, marking a significant comeback in the media landscape of Burkina Faso.
