Global Evangelical Church Pledges Support for Akosombo Dam Spillage Victims

LASHIBI – The Global Evangelical Church, under the leadership of Right Reverend Prosper Dzomeku, has committed to assisting those affected by the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams. The pledge was made during the 35th-anniversary celebrations of the Global Evangelical Church Yahweh Chapel in Lashibi.

According to a new release by the Ghana News Agency, Right Reverend Dzomeku stated that the Church is in the process of mobilizing resources, including food and clothing, which are to be distributed to the affected communities this week. He emphasized that the Church stands with the victims in their time of need.

The Moderator noted that while the government and other institutions are doing their part, individual citizens and companies should also contribute to the relief efforts. He insisted that the hardship faced by the affected communities could not be ignored and that every form of support would be extended to them.

In his sermon, Reverend Dzomeku took the opportunity to reaffirm the church’s stance against LGBTQ practices in Ghana. Citing Mathew 19, he stated that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, and any law attempting to redefine this should be rejected.

The Moderator also expressed concern that the Church is losing its divine authority to shape nations and societies, urging members to make God’s word the cornerstone in their lives.

Reverend Lawrence K.T. Ganyo, the Tema Presbytery Chairman of the Global Evangelical Church, praised Yahweh Chapel for its dedication and encouraged the members to remain united for the development of the church. Parish Pastor Reverend Deladem Dogbatse acknowledged the challenges the Church has faced but celebrated its resilience and leadership.

Mr. Rockson Dogbega, Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, recognized the contributions of the church’s founders and various pastors. The 35th anniversary was marked by various activities, including health screenings, a health walk, and evangelism, as well as a donation to the children’s ward of the Tema General Hospital. The theme of the celebration was ‘GEC@35: Celebrating God’s Goodness; Building together, growing together,’ and aimed to raise funds for ongoing church projects and celebrate its history and accomplishments.
