CEAST supports Political-Administrative Division proposal

Luena – The president of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé (CEAST) Bishop José Manuel Imbamba has praised the Executive’s proposal on the new Political-Administrative Division, aimed to develop and improve the people’s living standards.

The church leader was speaking to the press at the end of an audience granted to him on Monday by the provincial governor of the eastern Moxico province, Ernesto Muangala.

As example, the prelate mentioned the administrative division of Moxico province, the country’s largest territory (with 223.023 square kilometers), as a way that will bring valences for development of the region.

“This measure will offer more services and opportunities for remote communities to feel connected and close to basic social services”, he stressed.

José Imbamba, also Metropolitan Archbishop of Saurimo, defended the need to keep permanent dialogue between the different institutions of the State in order to solve the country’s issues and guarantee communities’ welfare.

In the meeting with the governor, he reiterated the intention of the Catholic Church to create the diocese of Cazombo, in the municipality of Alto-Zambeze, to allow greater administration of the region and consequent “removal of the isolation in which it finds itself”.

In his turn, governor Ernesto Muangala highlighted the “good partnership” existing between the State and the Church in solving the social problems that affect the population.

The proposal of the Political-Administrative Division foresees the update of the State’s model of municipality.

The proposal was approved in the Cabinet Council, with the division of the provinces of Cuando Cubango and Moxico in two, thus making twenty (20) provinces and raising the number of municipalities from the current 164 to 581.

The proposal foresees the creation of 19 municipalities for the province of Moxico and 11 jurisdictions for Cassai Zambeze, the likely new province.
