Hauts-Bassins Agricultural Cooperatives Receive Support from Regional Development Agency


BOBO-DIOULASSO, Burkina Faso — The Regional Development Agency (ARD) has provided crucial agricultural equipment to cooperatives in the Hauts-Bassins region, aiming to bolster market gardening activities. This initiative took place in Bobo-Dioulasso on Friday, January 12, 2024, and represents a significant investment in local agriculture.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the equipment, which includes processing equipment, wheelbarrows, shovels, boxes of PVC glue, and tricycles, was distributed to two agricultural cooperatives from the municipalities of Houndé and Toussiana in the Hauts-Bassins region. The total cost of this equipment was around eight million CFA francs (FCFA). The funding for this initiative was sourced through the collaboration of the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Hauts-Bassins Regional Council, as part of ARD’s agriculture and sustainable development project.



Mariama Konaté, the President of the special regional delegation of Hauts-Bassins, officially handed over the materials to the beneficiary cooperatives. Dramane Ouattara, the director of the ARD, highlighted that this donation aligns with the agency’s goal to strengthen the capacities of agricultural stakeholders, with the aim of enhancing their production capabilities.



The representative of the beneficiaries, Oula Charles Coulibaly, president of the Wenpea 1 cooperative in the commune of Toussiana, expressed gratitude for the donations. He emphasized the commitment of the cooperatives to utilize the equipment effectively to improve their productivity and production quality.



Coulibaly remarked that the new equipment would significantly enhance the cooperatives’ productivity and production capabilities, both in terms of quantity and quality. This support from ARD is expected to have a positive impact on the market gardening activities in the Hauts-Bassins region, contributing to the overall development of local agriculture.
