Prime Minister Abiy Calls for Unity and Peace in Amhara Region


ADDIS ABABA — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the critical need for peace, security, and the continuation of development initiatives in Ethiopia’s Amhara region during a meeting with regional representatives on February 19, 2024. Joined by Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh and Amhara Region Chief Administrator Arega Kebede, the discussion aimed to address the ongoing challenges within the region.



According Ethiopian News Agency, this meeting marked the culmination of a series of dialogue sessions that took place across Amhara over the previous week. The discussions, spearheaded by executive members of the Prosperity Party, sought to engage zone representatives in a comprehensive dialogue on current issues facing the region.



Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed shared insights from the meetings on X, highlighting the concerted effort to address a range of concerns raised by the representatives. “Providing responses on a number of issues, we have underscored the importance of uniting efforts for a common purpose,” Prime Minister Abiy stated, underscoring the collective goal of maintaining regional stability and progress.



The Prime Minister’s Office reported that the dialogue focused on the paramount importance of ensuring peace and security, alongside advancing ongoing development projects in Amhara. The representatives expressed various concerns, receiving attention and responses from the Prime Minister, aimed at fostering a unified approach to overcoming the region’s challenges.



At the meeting’s conclusion, community representatives expressed their gratitude towards Prime Minister Abiy for his dedication and leadership. In a gesture of appreciation, they presented the Prime Minister with gifts, signaling the community’s support for his efforts to secure a peaceful and prosperous future for the Amhara region.
