Dakola Celebrates First Neighbors Festival with Focus on Cultural Exchange


Dakola, Nahouri—Dakola hosted the inaugural Neighbors Festival from May 1 to May 4, 2024, marking a significant cultural exchange between Burkina Faso and Ghana. The festival took place approximately 20 kilometers south of Pô, close to the Burkina-Ghana border, with Auguste Kinda, the High Commissioner of Nahouri Province, overseeing the closing ceremonies.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the promoter of the festival, the event was designed to strengthen community ties and promote shared cultural heritage between the Burkinabè and Ghanaian people. The four-day festival featured various activities, including storytelling, djongo dance, and performances by artists from both countries, celebrating the Kassena Nankana culture that spans across the border.



The festival also highlighted common languages and customs, emphasizing the deep-rooted similarities between the two communities. Kinda emphasized the importance of sustaining such activities to enhance community integration and mutual respect, reflecting the longstanding harmonious relations between the populations of Burkina Faso and Ghana.



Kibora noted that the festival’s goals were achieved, pointing to the enthusiastic participation and commitment to social cohesion and unity exhibited by the attendees from both nations.
