Sfax hosts information session on WIDU project

The Sfax Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted an information session on the WIDU project achieved in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), attended by local young entrepreneurs and start-up founders.

Launched in Tunisia since December 8, 2021 through its digital platform, the WIDU seeks to build the capacities of the diaspora for economic development and job creation in Tunisia through the improvement, facilitation and subsidisation of the remittances of Tunisians living abroad, said Project Coordinator at GIZ Rim Tabib.

In addition to the financial support that could reach TND 9.2 million for project applicants, the system offers an African WIDU platform and technical support in partnership with Redstart-Tunisia.

The project targets Tunisians living in 7 European countries, namely Germany, Norway, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden and Austria.

Launched since 2019 in several African countries, such as Cameroon, Ethipoia, Ghana, Kenya and Togo, the WIDU project is achieved through the cooperation with GIZ and commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

In Tunisia, the project has so far helped financially support 210 entrepreneurs and has created over 220 jobs, 63% of which are for women. The project has further helped provide over TND 1 million for SMEs.
