Burkina: A pan-African advocates the adoption of a new constitution to take into account “the realities of the country”

Pan-African activist Lassané Sawadogo on Tuesday called on the authorities of the Transition to change the current Constitution adopted on June 2, 1991, under the regime of former President Blaise Compaoré by a new , which should, according to him, take into account “the realities of Burkinabè”.

“I support and I propose that the authorities of the current Transition, which benefit from popular legitimacy of the Burkinabè people, change the constitution of June 02, 1991 with a new constitution in the image of Burkina Faso”, affirmed this Tuesday the pan-African activist Lassané Sawadogo.

Mr. Sawadogo was this Tuesday in Ouagadougou in front of journalists to invite the authorities of the Transition to work for the adoption of a new constitution in Burkina Faso which, in his opinion, must take into account “the realities of Burkinabè”.

The pan-African activist estimated that the current constitution of Burkina Faso adopted on June 2, 1991 under the former Compaoré regime no longer meets the aspirations of Burkinabè.

According to him, the present texts contain shortcomings that the new authorities must correct in the drafting of the future constitution.

“If we refuse to adapt the new constitution to our realities, we will all perish,” he said.

Mr. Sawadogo clarified that the constitution of a country constitutes the essence of the development and virtuous governance of the nation if it reflects the real image of this country.
