Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostas Fragkogiannis’ visit to Kuwait (16-17.01.2023)

Deputy Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Kostas Fragkogiannis and Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiadis held successive meetings with prominent Kuwaiti entrepreneurs and officials of the country’s new government during their working visit to Kuwait on January 16 and 17, 2023.

Talks focused on the enhancement of relations between the two countries and the preparation of a Joint Inter-ministerial meeting to draw up an agenda of issues concerning both the Kuwaiti business world and Greek entrepreneurs seeking to expand their activities in the Arabian Peninsula.

The two ministers had the opportunity to present the rapid change that has occurred over the last four years in our country, which is now an appealing destination for large investments. For their part, Kuwait’s Undersecretary of Ministry of Finance Aseel Al-Saad Al Munifi and Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of State for Telecommunications and Information Technology Affairs Mazin Saad Ali Al-Nahedh expressed particular interest in the air link between Athens and Kuwait, an agreement which they assured is very close to being concluded.

On Monday evening, Mr. Fragogiannis and Mr. Georgiadis inaugurated the exhibition Alexander the Great, Bridging East and West, by Warlamis. The event was attended by dozens of entrepreneurs from Kuwait and Greeks operating in the region. At the opening of the exhibition – an initiative of Ambassador Konstantinos Piperigos – the internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Alexandra Gravas performed Greek and Arabic songs.

The delegation had previously visited the city’s national museum, which prominently displays findings from excavations on the ancient Greek island of Failaka, named after the Greek word “Fylakion” due to its strategic location, which Alexander the Great exploited.  Cooperation in the planning of the island’s promotion of culture and tourism development was requested during the meeting with the Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce. Two Greek archaeological expeditions have already been carried out on the island, while other countries are currently carrying out archaeological expeditions.

During the visit to Kuwait, Deputy Minister Fragogiannis signed, on behalf of the Hellenic Export Credit Corporation ECG, a Memorandum of Cooperation with Dhaman, Kuwait’s respective entity.
