South African U15 Boys National Team Set for International Debut in Morocco

Rabat – The South African U15 Boys National Team is poised for their first international friendly matches in Rabat, Morocco, commencing their journey on Sunday, 10 December 2023. This marks a significant milestone for the newly established team, which has been rigorously preparing under the guidance of Head Coach Vela Khumalo.

During the past week, the team has been in camp, receiving intensive training from Khumalo, with assistance from Thabo Mngomeni and Shaibu Walters. The 21-player squad is scheduled to compete against Cote d’Ivoire’s U15 team on 12 December 2023, followed by a match against the hosts, Morocco, on 17 December 2023.

According to South African Football Association, the week-long training session has been productive, and the team is eagerly anticipating the upcoming matches. “This groundbreaking initiative by the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) is a fantastic opportunity for our players to gain international football experience,” Khumalo said. He emphasized the tournament’s significance as an eye-opener for the young players, underlining the importance of understanding what it takes to build a great team.

Khumalo plans to give all team members game time during the tournament, aiming to not only provide experience but also to instill and implement the team’s playing philosophy. This international exposure is expected to be a critical step in developing the young talents and fostering a competitive spirit among them.
