Basic Education celebrates World Literacy Day, 7 Sept
The Department of Basic Education will tomorrow, Tuesday 07 September 2021-mark World Literacy Day which is celebrated globally on 08 September 2021.
For over 40 years now, UNESCO has celebrated International Literacy Day, a day which is used to remind the international community that literacy is a human right and the foundation of all learning.
Literacy is a cause for celebration since there are now close to four billion literate people in the world. However, literacy for all – children, youth and adults – is still an unaccomplished goal and an ever moving target.
The aim of the DBE’s World Literacy Day celebration is to share knowledge and experiences regarding inclusive and good technology-enabled literacy programmes for youth and adults while exploring creative ways to make literacy policies and programmes better and more inclusive;
In celebrating World Literacy Day, the Department will be able to identify key issues and generate new ideas for a reimagined technology-enabled literacy teaching and learning in the times of COVID-19 and beyond.
