Zorgho District Launches First Health Development Plan in Ganzourgou

ZORGHOU – The inaugural Health Development Plan for the Zorgho Health District was officially validated on April 26, 2024, under the leadership of the High Commissioner of the Ganzourgou province, Ms. Aminata Sorgho/Gouba. The event, held in the health district meeting room, gathered various stakeholders including health professionals, municipal leaders, directors of provincial services, and local partners.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Chief Medical Officer of the Zorgho Health District, the plan is a comprehensive strategy developed by the District Executive Team. It integrates insights from health workers, administrative, religious, and customary authorities, Technical and Financial Partners (PTF), and the community. The plan focuses on addressing key health issues within the district, emphasizing improvements in service quality, governance, community involvement, and human resource management.

Spanning from 2024 to 2028, the Health Development Plan aligns with national health directives and has received funding from UNICEF. The district, with its 73 health and social promotion centers and a district hospital, serves a population of 557,651, over half of whom live within 5 km of a health facility. Priority areas include enhancing service quality, governance, hygiene, sanitation, and managing health emergencies.

An operational plan detailing 77 activities with a total cost of approximately 6.86 billion FCFA supports the Health Development Plan. These activities range from routine meetings and advocacy for new infrastructure to enhancing supplies of pharmaceuticals and blood products.

During the workshop, participants actively engaged in reviewing, questioning, and amending the plan, demonstrating their dedication to enhancing health services in the district. The plan was unanimously approved, with amendments to be incorporated. Ms. Sorgho/Gouba expressed gratitude for the contributions and emphasized the need for continued stakeholder involvement to ensure the plan’s successful implementation.
