Chad fighting kills 23 people

N’DJAMENA, Oct 19 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Chadian troops fought for hours with unknown gunmen at a country’s southern city, military sources reported in this capital on Tuesday.

The clashes started in the village of Dembo, near the border with the Central African Republic, at dusk Monday, which poses that the attackers came from that neighboring country without confirmation of identity or affiliation.

Chadian military sources stated that the attackers suffered 18 casualties; they reported a dozen prisoners and admitted five dead in the ranks of the Army.

Meanwhile, political parties and civil society organizations continue the social mobilization for a protest march on Thursday against the military government headed by Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, son of late Chadian President Idriss Déby Itno, who died while fighting alleged insurgents opposed to his government.
