Burkina Faso Military Thwarts Major Terrorist Attack in Sahel Region

Ouagadougou – In a decisive operation, the Burkina Faso military successfully foiled and neutralized a large-scale terrorist attack planned in the Sahel region. The operation, carried out this Saturday, prevented what could have been a deadly assault on the Fighting Forces and local populations.

According to Burkina Information Agency, armed terrorist groups had been plotting a significant attack against the Combatant Forces and civilians in the Sahel since November 17, 2023. The terrorists had already positioned armed pick-ups, motorcycles, and boxes of ammunition in Koutoukou, preparing to converge on Kéréboulé for the attack. However, the army’s air assets, monitoring the terrorists for several hours, effectively decimated them before they could carry out their planned assault.

On the morning of November 18, 2023, as the terrorist groups attempted to resupply north of Koutoukou near the Malian border, they were precisely targeted and hit. Those who survived initially sought shelter to save ammunition boxes but were subsequently killed. Fuel drums hidden in the bushes were also targeted, leading to a fire at the terrorist base, which was destroyed in a series of explosions.

Simultaneously, another group of around forty terrorists on motorcycles, planning to join the first group at Kéréboulé, were monitored by aerial assets. Despite attempting to evade detection under a hangar, they were targeted by a missile and exterminated.

In a related incident during the night, another terrorist group entering Burkinabe territory from the three-border zone was neutralized. They had parked at an abandoned gold panning site near Tin Samane. Aerial vectors first destroyed their arsenal before tracking down and eliminating the survivors.

Our sources confirm that all these terrorist groups active in the Sahel in recent hours have been neutralized, while military operations continue in the region.
