Comoé Province Launches Innovative Education and Poultry Farming Project at Banfora Primary School

BANFORA – In an event marked by community and educational leaders on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Comoé Provincial Directorate of preschool, primary, and non-formal education unveiled a unique initiative, “a school, a henhouse,” at Center A primary school in Banfora. The ceremony was chaired by Mamadou Hema, the Provincial Director, and witnessed the distribution of 50 chicks along with comprehensive breeding kits to the students, aiming to integrate poultry farming into their educational curriculum.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project manager of “a school, a henhouse,” the distribution of chicks and breeding kits – which include drinkers, antibiotics, poultry feed, and boots – is just the beginning of a broader educational journey. Following the handover, the student beneficiaries will receive specialized training in breeding techniques, laying the foundation for practical agricultural education.

Coulibaly has ambitious plans for the project, aspiring to expand it across the Cascades region and eventually to all schools in Burkina Faso. He mentioned that this initiative aligns with the president’s call for transitional educational programs that equip students with practical skills and knowledge for future self-reliance.

Mamadou Hema expressed his appreciation for the innovative project, highlighting its potential to empower students by providing them with the opportunity to engage in meaningful, practical learning activities. He lauded the initiative as a significant contribution to both the educational development of students and their future prospects in agricultural entrepreneurship.

Hema encouraged support from all sectors of society for this project, recognizing its dual role in enhancing educational experiences and preparing students for successful futures in Burkina Faso’s growing agricultural sector.
