Victim in Fatal Minibus Crash Near Grootfontein Identified

GROOTFONTEIN, Namibia — A 38-year-old man who died in a minibus accident on the B8 road between Mururani and Grootfontein on Sunday has been identified as Kupembona Albert Kupembona. The tragic incident involved a 16-seater minibus that overturned and rolled several times, resulting in his instantaneous death.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, the accident happened at approximately 15h30, about 100 kilometers northeast of Grootfontein. Nawa reported that fourteen other occupants of the minibus, including the driver, survived the crash with injuries ranging from slight to serious. They were transported to the Grootfontein State Hospital for treatment on the same day. A culpable homicide charge has been registered against the 30-year-old driver, who reportedly lost control of the vehicle following a burst in its left rear tire. The minibus was en route from Rundu to Grootfontein when the accident occurred, and police investigations are ongoing.
