8th Session of the Greece-India Joint Economic Committee/ Signing of Protocol (Athens, April 15, 2022)

The 8th Session of the Greece-India Joint Economic Committee, concluded its works on Friday April 15, 2022, in Athens with the signing of a Protocol by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Kostas Fragogiannis and the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry of India Anupriya Patel.

In their introductory remarks, the two Deputy Ministers referred to the excellent level of relations between the two countries, noting the prospects for further strengthening and expanding economic relations in the fields of trade and investment, energy and renewable sources, transport and tourism.

The Greek delegation consisted of the Secretaries General of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Apostolos Dimitropoulos, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food Konstantinos Baginetas and the Ministry of Tourism Olympia Anastassopoulou.

High-ranking officials from the Ministries of Development and Investment, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, Health as well as executives of Enterprise Greece, the Civil Protection Authority, Athens Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Hellenic Cinema Center also participated.

The Committee also examined possibilities of enhancing trade in goods, in particular food, pharmaceuticals and construction materials. The prospects of direct air connections between Greece and India were discussed as well, following the recent ratification by the Greek Parliament, in February 2022, of the Greece-India air connection agreement signed in 2017.

Upon conclusion of the Committee’s work, Mr. Fragogiannis praised the warm and constructive atmosphere in the talks, which, as he pointedly said in a short statement to ERT, “prepared the ground for the next big business mission to India scheduled for the coming autumn”.
