“Skybird Two”: A New Phase for Women’s Empowerment in East Africa


Addis Ababa: Today marks the unveiling of “Skybird Two,” a significant five-year initiative aimed at fostering women’s equality and inclusivity across Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) President, Abera Tola, announced the project, which targets over 200,000 women with a 4 million Euro budget, 80 percent of which is funded by the Austrian Development Agency, alongside contributions from the Austrian Red Cross and the Switzerland Natural Resources Development Project.



The project seeks to establish institutions that empower women, promote their leadership and decision-making capacities, and improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. The Austrian Red Cross Country Director, Temesgen Abebe, and the Austrian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Simon Knapp, expressed their commitment to supporting the initiative’s success, building on the achievements of the “Skybird One” project.
