Zorgho: Sanbrado Mines Company Awards Three-Year Scholarships to Two High School Graduates in Boudry

Zorgho, On October 2, 2023, the Sanbrado Mines Company (SOMISA) signed a scholarship agreement with Sylvie W. Zabda and Abdoul Sakourou Tiendrébéogo, two recent high school graduates from the Boudry departmental high school. The agreement was formalized during a ceremony at the Boudry town hall, chaired by Mrs. Aminata Sorgho/Gouba, the high commissioner of Ganzourgou province.

According to News Releases by Burkina Information News Agency, the scholarship program is designed to support three years of higher education for the beneficiaries. The signing took place in the meeting room of the Boudry town hall and was attended by several authorities, including the President of the special delegation from the commune of Boudry, school managers, SOMISA representatives, and parents of the students.

The terms of the agreement specify that the scholarship will cover registration fees and other compulsory additional costs for a maximum of three years, provided there is no discontinuity or repetition in studies. It also includes the provision of basic computer equipment at the start of the first year and offers academic internships with SOMISA during the second and third years. However, the scholarship does not guarantee employment with SOMISA.

Following the agreement’s formalization, each beneficiary received a laptop computer equipped with necessary software for their studies.

Aurélia Bassinga, the senior HR business partner at SOMISA, stated that the scholarship program is a component of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. It aims to contribute to education and quality professional training for young people in the Boudry community. Christelle Foméni, SOMISA Senior Community Relations Coordinator, reiterated that the selected students showed academic promise, determination, and passion for their fields. She expressed optimism that the scholarship recipients would become thought leaders and innovators, making significant contributions to societal development.

High Commissioner Aminata Sorgho/Gouba and D. Mohamed Ouédraogo, the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Boudry, expressed gratitude to SOMISA for initiating the scholarship program. Sorgho encouraged the beneficiaries to seize this opportunity for academic and professional growth, expressing hope that SOMISA could increase the number of scholarship beneficiaries in the future.
