Police are on the lookout for hit and run suspect

The police in Welkom are investigating a culpable homicide case following a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Friday, 11 August 2023 at about 23:00 in Jan Hofmeyer Road.

A 39-year-old man, Mr Wellington Mongezi Selebano, and his friend were busy pushing his vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla, as he ran out of petrol. He was pushing the vehicle from the right hand side to have access to the steering wheel.

Suddenly, an unknown vehicle, white in colour, came from behind and hit him. The vehicle did not stop after the incident and drove off from the scene. The victim was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital, where he later passed away.

The police therefore request that anyone with information that can help trace the vehicle that hit the deceased to please come forward. The witness, Ms Boitumelo Rabodi who was helping to push the vehicle, should please contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Riaan de Lange on 082 821 9227.
