Police arrest two suspects with unlicensed firearm

Concerted efforts to bring perpetrators of the law to book landed two men aged 34 and 41 behind bars on Sunday evening, 18 June 2023.

Members of the Maitland Flying Squad received information of a firearm that is stored at a premises in Mbongi Street, Khayelitsha. The information was followed up and the premises searched when the members found a 9mm pistol in the house. Further investigations revealed that one of the suspects is a police constable. Both suspects were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile issued a stern warning to those members who find themselves on the wrong side of the law that they will face the consequences of their actions.
