Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to visit Spain (Madrid, 05.05.2022)

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias will travel tomorrow, May 5th, to Spain for a working visit.

This is the Minister’s second visit to Spain, following his visit to Madrid in July 2020.
The Minister’s visit follows the visit of the Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares Bueno to Athens in December 2021.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will be received by the Speaker of the Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet. He will also hold a meeting with the President and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Congress of Deputies.

Mr. Dendias will then hold a one-on-one meeting with his Spanish counterpart. Following the meeting and the expanded talks, joint statements to the press are scheduled to take place at approximately 16:45 (Greek time).

Talks are expected to cover the strengthening of bilateral cooperation and coordination between the two countries, especially within the EU, in light, also, of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU which will start in July 2023.

In addition, discussion is also expected to focus on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, energy security, the upcoming NATO Summit in Madrid, the migration-refugee issue, the European perspective of the Western Balkans, as well as on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa, including the situation in Libya.

During the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ visit, Memoranda of Understanding on Political Consultations and on cooperation in the field of diplomatic training are expected to be signed.
