SAPS Cold Case Unit Arrests Suspect in 2021 Murder of Liezel de Jager

PRETORIA – In a significant breakthrough, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Cold Case Unit has arrested a suspect in connection with the 2021 murder of Liezel de Jager.

According to South African Police Service, The Cold Case Unit, under the leadership of Brigadier Bafana Gininda, took over the investigation on November 6, 2023. Within just two weeks, the unit was able to trace and link a suspect to the murder. The team’s relentless efforts in analyzing and following up on information led to the arrest of a 45-year-old man in the early hours of November 24, 2023, in Bloemfontein.

This suspect is now scheduled to appear on a charge of murder before the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 27, 2023. Liezel De Jager was tragically murdered at her home in Amanzimtoti on October 13, 2021, and the case had remained unresolved until this recent development.

The SAPS Cold Case Unit, a division of the detective services, specializes in investigating unresolved cases. This arrest is a testament to their dedication to pursuing justice, regardless of how much time has passed since the commission of a crime.
