Springboks Defend Rugby World Cup Title, Setting Record with Fourth Win, Says Committee Chair

Pretoria, South Africa—The Springboks achieved a historic feat by winning the Rugby World Cup for a record fourth time and successfully defending their title. The significant win took place on a rainy Saturday evening in Paris against the All Blacks, with a final score of 12-11.

According to a new release by the Parliament of South Africa, the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture, the victory has made South Africa the only nation to win the Rugby World Cup four times. Ms. Dlulane extended her congratulations and remarked that the Springboks have not only brought joy to the nation but also elevated the sport’s status, both nationally and globally.

In the final match, the Springboks included a significant number of players who were also part of the team that won the World Cup in Tokyo, Japan, in 2019. Ms. Dlulane noted that emulating this group’s accomplishments would be a substantial challenge for the next generation of rugby players.

Only New Zealand had previously defended the World Cup title under the captaincy of Richie McCaw. This accomplishment has now been matched by Springboks’ skipper Siya Kolisi, marking another notable milestone for South African rugby.

Ms. Dlulane emphasized that the impact of this victory would be felt for generations to come and described it as an event of great significance.

The Springboks were joined by President Cyril Ramaphosa in Paris for their title defence, further indicating the importance attached to this sporting event by the country’s leadership.
