Ethiopian Chief of Staff Receives South Sudan’s Highest Honor in Juba


Addis Ababa: During a ceremonial event at South Sudan’s national palace, Ethiopian National Defense Force Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, was awarded the country’s highest medal by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the honor comes as part of a two-day official visit by a delegation led by the chief of staff to Juba, South Sudan. The medal was presented in recognition of the Ethiopian National Defense Force’s sacrifices for the freedom and sovereignty of South Sudan. President Kiir, in his remarks, expressed gratitude towards Ethiopia for its role in providing refuge and support during South Sudan’s challenging times and for the ultimate sacrifice of thousands of Ethiopians for South Sudan’s independence. He also highlighted the ongoing support Ethiopia has provided in strengthening South Sudan’s military capabilities.
