Ethiopia Prepares for Large-scale Repatriation from Saudi Arabia


Addis Ababa: The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the initiation of the third phase for the repatriation of approximately 70,000 Ethiopian nationals from Saudi Arabia, scheduled to start within two weeks.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, This operation, disclosed by State Minister Ambassador Birtukan, is in response to the dire conditions faced by these citizens abroad. The National Committee, under Ambassador Birtukan’s leadership, emphasized the necessity of federal and regional coordination for a successful repatriation. The committee has called for the preparation of adequate budget, logistics, and shelters for the returnees upon their arrival in Addis Ababa.



Tayba Hassan, the Director General of Refugees and Returnees, also highlighted the importance of focused efforts from all relevant institutions and regions to facilitate this process effectively. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that necessary arrangements are underway to ensure the plan’s timely execution.
