Possible resumption of Air France flights: Burkina first demands to be downgraded from the ‘red’ zone

The government will examine the request from Air France, wishing to resume its flights to Burkina Faso, but on condition that the Quai d’Orsay first reconsiders the total classification in “red” of the country , which had prevailed in the unilateral suspension of flights on August 7, 2023, the AIB learned Thursday, from first-hand sources.

On August 7, 2023, following the events in Niger, Air France announced the suspension of its flights to Burkina Faso without notice.

When it announced the resumption of its flights for August 12, 2023, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) gave it a categorical refusal on the grounds that it would first have to obtain approval for its new flight schedule.

Since then, the airline has repeatedly extended its suspension.

According to our information, at the beginning of October, ANAC submitted to the Ministry of Transport a request from Air France wishing to resume its flights in Burkina Faso.

But for the ministerial department, this request can only be examined if
the Quai d’Orsay reconsiders the entire classification of the country in the red zone, which occurred a few days before the unilateral suspension.
