Madagascar: 12 people die in stampedes

12 people were killed and 80 others injured on Friday during stampedes in Antananaviro, the AIB learned from the National News Agency of Madagascar (Taratra).

The opening of the 11th Island Games in Madagascar was bereaved this Friday.

12 people were killed due to jostling at the gates of the Barea Mahamasina stadium in Antananarivo, the country’s capital.

Local media speak of 80 injured, including 11 who require emergency surgery, according to Taratra.

The President of the Malagasy Republic, Andry Rajoelina, asked the audience for a minute of silence, in honor of the victims, during his opening speech of the Games.
