Oshikoto Police Launch Comprehensive Festive Season Safety Operation

Omuthiya — Oshikoto Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Teopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku, has announced the commencement of a comprehensive safety operation for the festive season. Speaking at the regional police briefing session in Omuthiya on Tuesday, Nashikaku stated that the operation, spanning from 17 November 2023 to 17 January 2024, aims to curb crime and reduce road fatalities.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), the police are committed to ensuring zero fatalities and preventing stock theft during this period. The operation will focus on enhancing road safety, with an increased number of traffic officers on the B1 road and the establishment of various roadblocks. Nashikaku also expressed concern over the rising incidents of stock theft in the region, attributing it to high demand for local farmers’ meat in other areas. Additionally, the commissioner highlighted the influx of holidaymakers during the festive season and called for public cooperation with law enforcement. She emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations and ensuring public safety during the holiday celebrations.
