Yatenga Celebrates Community Day with Sports Events


Ouahigouya – Yatenga province observed Communities Day with a series of sports events on April 26, aimed at promoting social cohesion and conflict prevention. The events were presided over by the High Commissioner of the province, Tasséré Nacoulma.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the day began with a cross-country race starting from the Place de la Nation in Ouahigouya under the slogan ‘Living together in Yatenga, our strength’. High-ranking officials including Tasséré Nacoulma, members of the High Commission, representatives from the Burkinabè communities of Mali and Niger, as well as Sam Joseph Dabiré, North Base Coordinator for the Educo Foundation, participated in the morning’s activities, which also included aerobics.



The afternoon featured two maracana football matches at the field of sector 2 in Ouahigouya. The games involved teams of internally displaced women and their hosts, as well as teams of internally displaced men and local residents. These matches provided an opportunity for different communities to engage and interact in a spirit of unity.



High Commissioner Nacoulma remarked, “It is a sports day which allowed us to launch our program of activities, a mixing of different communities who aspire to live better together in the same spirit of resilience in a difficult security context.”
