Embu Hosts Free Cleft Lip and Palate Surgeries for Children

EMBU – Children from underprivileged families in Embu County are receiving free corrective surgeries for cleft lips and palates, thanks to a joint initiative between the Kenya Progressive Nurses Association and the county’s health department. The surgeries, which are part of a larger community outreach effort, coincide with the association’s upcoming annual scientific conference in Embu.

According to Kenya News Agency, the health department outlined that the reconstructive surgeries are taking place at the Embu Level Five Hospital and are expected to benefit over 50 children during a five-day period. Michael Nyongesa, the National Chair of the Kenya Progressive Nurses Association, expressed the group’s commitment to the annual CSR initiative, emphasizing its importance in bringing smiles and relief to the affected children and families.

The Deputy Governor of Embu, Kinyua Mugo, commended the free surgery initiative during its launch, noting the potential to restore hope and dignity to the children suffering from these common birth defects. In addition, the Deputy Governor announced the county’s plans to bolster the local healthcare system by hiring additional medical staff to improve service delivery across all facilities.
