Appointment of Ambassador Georgios Zacharioudakis as a Ministry of Foreign Affairs Special Envoy for Libya (15.03.2022)

By decision of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, the Ambassador of Greece to Algeria, Georgios Zacharioudakis, was appointed Ministry of Foreign Affairs Special Envoy for issues concerning Libya, replacing Ambassador Christodoulos Lazaris.

The appointment of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs Special Envoy for issues concerning Libya proves Greece’s keen and active interest for neighbouring Libya, to which we are linked by long-standing and historical ties. It is recalled that Greece was one of the first countries to reopen their Embassy in Tripoli, in February 2021, and the first country to reopen the Consulate General in Benghazi in May 2021.

Greece will continue to work, in coordination and cooperation with the international community, to achieve peace and stability in Libya for the benefit of the Libyan people and the wider region.
