Air Force in readiness in defense of the country

Ondjiva – The head of the Directorate of Patriotic Education of the National Air Force (FAN), Lieutenant General Justino da Glória, highlighted, this Saturday, in Cunene, the readiness in defending the airspace in the southern region of Angola.

The National Air Force, a branch of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), has a unit and an airfield in the municipality of Cahama, 175 kilometers from the city of Ondjiva, ready to defend the national airspace.

Justino da Glória noted the conditions of the Cahama unit, in Cunene, having observed “a positive work” that sends the troops into combat readiness and in a state of discipline that is required in compliance with the laws and directives issued by superior bodies.

The visit by the high ranking FAN is part of the appointment, in January this year, by the Head of State, João Lourenço, of the new commander of this branch and of other members of the command, who are visiting units in the various provinces of the country.

After the evaluation made, Justino da Glória defended the change of the current scenario of the Cahama maneuvering airfield structure, which could move to a higher level.

He explained that that unit favors infrastructure, which needs to be improved and make the place one of the biggest runways for maneuvers at the level of the Southern Air Region.

Still in the phase of “getting to know the house better”, the new commander of the Southern Air Region, Lieutenant General Samuel Chipalavela, guaranteed to make efforts to better fulfill the mission, within the framework of the defense of national space.

He informed that some lines have already been defined and others to be identified for alignment and compliance with superior guidelines.

The Southern Air Region comprises the provinces of Huíla, Namibe, Cunene, Cuando Cubango, Huambo, Bié and Cuanza Sul in territorial terms.
