Hungarian University Partners with Kenya for Technical Skills Enhancement


Nairobi: In Nairobi, a landmark collaboration has been initiated between a leading Hungarian university and two Kenyan technical-oriented universities, aimed at bolstering the capabilities of trainers in 13 National Polytechnics across Kenya. Óbuda University, in partnership with the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT), is set to spearhead a technology and skills transfer program. This initiative focuses on areas such as Welding, Mechatronics, and Electronic Engineering, primarily benefiting trainers and trainees in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.



According to Kenya News Agency, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu represented the Kenyan government in the agreement. The Hungarian Ambassador to Kenya, Amb Zsolt Mészáros, was also present at the event. Key attendees included Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, Principal Secretary for Higher Education, Prof. Benedict Mutua, Vice Chancellor of TUK, and Prof. Peter Muchiri, Vice Chancellor of DeKUT.



Machogu commended the initiative, highlighting its potential to equip Kenyans with skills that align with international standards. The Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas, known for its training in oil and gas-related courses, is also joining TUK and DeKUT in this exchange program. The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) is tasked with facilitating the activities to fulfill the objectives of the MoU.



Ambassador Mészáros emphasized the exchange program’s role in creating employment opportunities for young Kenyans, both locally and internationally. Dr. Inyangala pointed out the program’s significance in enhancing the instructional capacities of trainers in TVET institutions.



The MoU is set for a duration of five years, after which it will undergo a review for possible further collaboration.
