Batili stresses the need for women and vulnerable groups to participate in the political process in Libya

New York, February 27, 2023 (LANA) – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdullah Batili, stressed the need for women in Libya to have meaningful representation in the political process and the reconciliation process, indicating that the same applies to organizations Civil society, cultural components, youth, and vulnerable classes and groups.

In his briefing to the Security Council on Monday evening, Batili said, “In all my consultations with women and civil society organizations, there are repeated calls for a greater role in the political process and the ongoing reconciliation process, and the need to listen to their voice and ensure their full representation in all institutions.

The UN official indicated that, in a more positive gesture, on February 6, a draft law on combating violence against women was officially submitted to the House of Representatives.

In this regard, he praised the tireless efforts of the Libyan experts who drafted the aforementioned draft law, which is necessary to guarantee women’s basic right to live free from violence.
