Boucle du Mouhoun Commemorates National Colors to Foster Civic Pride


DÉDOUGOU – In a ceremony held on Monday, January 8, 2024, in Dédougou, the Boucle du Mouhoun region observed the solemn rotating rise of the national colors, signifying a commitment to civic-mindedness and patriotism. The event took place at the Saint Gabriel Private College and included the presentation of awards for a civics competition in schools.



According to Burkina Information Agency, this monthly event, conducted every first Monday, is part of an ongoing initiative across the Boucle du Mouhoun region. It aims to promote patriotism through the national colors, a symbol of the state, and involves public and parapublic services and structures. The selection of a school for the first ceremony of the year underscores the focus on engaging students, viewed as the future builders of the nation, in recognizing the importance of national unity, particularly in the current context of Burkina Faso.



The event underscored the importance of respecting national symbols as a means of fostering pride and patriotism among Burkinabè. This respect for the flag is seen as an opportunity for citizens to express their patriotism and unity, and to honor the country’s identity that commands respect and admiration worldwide. The ceremony highlighted the need to maintain and ensure civic and patriotic values through education.



The secretary-general of the region, Mrs. Adjara Kientéga/Ouedraogo, speaking on behalf of the bodies, expressed gratitude to the governor for his attention to the region’s activities. She reaffirmed their commitment to supporting him in his endeavors to develop the region and extended wishes for a year filled with health, peace, inspiration, courage, intelligence, and wisdom necessary for his responsibilities.



In response, the Governor acknowledged the bodies for their involvement in various activities and paid tribute to the defense and security forces, as well as volunteers defending the homeland. He encouraged students to show respect and consideration towards the elderly and courteousness towards their teachers.



The ceremony also honored the winners of the Lycée Privé Saint Gabriel in various competitions related to the national citizenship week and the 2023 festival of arts and culture (FACE). The event featured student performances in slam poetry and sketches focusing on civics and the issue of alcohol consumption in schools.
