Somali National Flood Emergency Committee Convenes to Address El Nino Impacts

MOGADISHU: The National Flood Relief Committee in Somalia held its first meeting at the Somali Disaster Management Agency Headquarters in Mogadishu to address the impact of El Nino and flash floods in the country. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, HE Salah Ahmed Jama, and included various government ministers and community representatives.

According to Somali National News Agency, a state of emergency was declared in response to the floods caused by the overflow of rivers. The Committee appealed for relief aid and donations to support those affected by the natural disaster. Phone and bank numbers were provided for the public to contribute donations, which will aid in providing food, clothing, and shelter to the flood-affected population. This initiative marks a significant step in mobilizing resources and coordinating efforts to mitigate the impact of the floods on the Somali people.
