Muhoroni Initiates Cleanup to Uplift Municipality Standards

MUHORONI – The vice chairman of the Muhoroni town board, Bishop Cyprian Kodieny, has initiated a cleanup drive in Muhoroni town following its elevation to a municipality status. The move is part of efforts to elevate the town’s cleanliness and align with its new developmental benchmarks.

According to Kenya News Agency, the cleanup exercise not only marks the town’s upgrade but also sets a precedent for an organized developmental trajectory that includes systematic housing, hospitals, and market planning. This initiative aligns with Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o’s vision of transforming Muhoroni into a dynamic urban center.

Muhoroni’s town manager, Mr. Lazarus Juma, disclosed that comprehensive measures are being instituted to safeguard the environment and improve the town’s aesthetic. He revealed that the cleanup program is intended to become a regular monthly event, rallying the Muhoroni community around the enhancement of their town. A key aspect of the town’s development approvals now includes an environmental component, requiring applicants to demonstrate tree planting initiatives as part of their plans.

The local business community has also called upon their peers to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and urged the county government to address the issue of waste and sewage disposal effectively.

Dorothy Anyango Bonyo, a member of the Muhoroni community, made a public plea for residents to avoid indiscriminate waste dumping and for business owners, especially women, to lead in the mission for a cleaner municipality. The establishment of well-managed garbage collection points equipped with the necessary tools is a goal she hopes the county government will fulfill.

The public health officer in Muhoroni, Thomas Owino, outlined additional concerns needing attention for the town’s cleanliness. His focus is on the mobilization of community members and raising awareness about proper waste disposal practices. Owino expressed his gratitude towards the youth who participated in the cleanup, acknowledging their role in making the town a better place to live.
