Woman Arrested in Walvis Bay for Alleged Murder of Newborn


SWAKOPMUND — A 20-year-old woman has been arrested in Walvis Bay on charges of murder following the alleged suffocation of her newborn baby.



According to The Namibia Press Agency, Erongo Regional Community Policing Officer Warrant Tuyenikelao Tashiyah reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening in the Tutaleni residential area, where the woman is accused of suffocating the baby boy with a cloth immediately after giving birth.



The baby’s body has been transported to the police mortuary for a post-mortem examination, while the suspect is currently under police guard in a hospital receiving medical treatment.



The woman is expected to face legal proceedings upon discharge from the hospital, as police investigations into the tragic incident continue.
