Russian Ambassador Saltykov Affirms Russia’s Support to Burkina Faso Ahead of Wheat Donation

OUAGADOUGOU — The Minister of State, Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism of Burkina Faso, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, welcomed Alexey Saltykov, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Burkina Faso, for a diplomatic meeting.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Ambassador Saltykov’s visit was primarily to reaffirm Russia’s commitment to Burkina Faso. This gesture of solidarity comes on the eve of a significant donation of 25,000 tons of Russian wheat to the Burkinabè people. The meeting between Minister Ouédraogo and Ambassador Saltykov focused on exploring ways to strengthen cooperation between Russia and Burkina Faso, particularly in areas of communication, culture, arts, and tourism.

Ambassador Saltykov expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, noting that the discussions were highly fruitful and contributed to further solidifying the diplomatic ties between the two nations. This meeting follows Minister Ouédraogo’s visit to Russia in November 2023, where he emphasized the importance of fostering ‘cooperation of peoples’ beyond strategic, diplomatic, and military collaborations.

The upcoming wheat donation by Russia highlights the deepening relationship between the two countries and Russia’s ongoing support to Burkina Faso in addressing its food security needs.
