Sub-Regional World Children’s Day to See Four Presidents in Walvis Bay

Walvis Bay — The Presidents of Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia are set to join President Hage Geingob in Walvis Bay for the sub-regional World Children’s Day event, hosted by Namibia’s Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication, and Social Welfare. The ministry’s spokesperson, Lukas Haufiku, announced this in a media statement on Tuesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), the gathering of leaders will build on previous regional engagements in Botswana and Zambia, focusing on the Heads of State Network. This platform is dedicated to discussing mutual concerns and formulating strategies for children’s rights in their respective countries. The celebration, scheduled for Sunday, will also feature over 200 children from the four nations, with thousands more participating virtually. Discussions will center on how leaders can foster environments conducive to children realizing their full potential. The event marks the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 November 1989 and is set under the theme ‘Renewing Our Promise for Children’s Rights.’
