Murang’a East Deputy County Commissioner Calls for Public Partnership to Enhance Local Security

Murang’a Town – Thomas Nyoro, the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) for Murang’a East, is urging residents to collaborate with law enforcement to improve security in the region. The call was made during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Ihura Stadium in Murang’a Town.

According to a new release by Kenya News Agency, Nyoro noted that through public partnerships, instances of insecurity in the area had seen a decline. He stressed the need for ongoing collaboration between law enforcement and residents to ensure a safer environment. To further deter theft, Nyoro encouraged residents to hire private security personnel for their businesses and to install security lights. “Even though police make regular patrol rounds, they need partnership from the public because they cannot be everywhere all the time,” he said.

The DCC also indicated that the local authorities are committed to enhancing security infrastructure, including the installation and maintenance of street lights. He further warned residents about livestock theft, urging them to secure their animals and report any suspicious activities. “Ensure that your livestock is well secured and report any suspicious activity to the local authorities immediately,” Nyoro advised.

On the issue of combating illicit alcohol, the DCC emphasized that the focus is not against bar operators but against the sale of second-generation and counterfeit alcohol that poses risks to public health. “The fight against drugs and illicit alcohol is ongoing, and we continue to apprehend all those found in possession of the drugs and illicit alcohol,” he stated. “We continue making random visits to bars to weed out any drinks that are not fit for human consumption and other counterfeits,” he added.

Nyoro also urged residents to participate in the ongoing green campaign by planting trees, especially during the rainy season. “We are lagging behind in Murang’a East, and we need to work together to meet our targets and improve our environment,” he concluded.
