Staff Headcount To Bring An End To Ghost Workers

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich has launched a week-long staff headcount to facilitate staff rationalization for effective service delivery to residents.

The audit, being conducted by the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), commenced on Monday March 13 and aims to update staff records, align staff as per their requisite qualifications, and determine gaps in skills and training needs as well as those eligible for promotion and re-designation.

The Governor emphasized that the exercise is not a witch hunt and that staff should not be worried. He called on all employees to participate in the exercise, stating that the audit is for their benefit.

The Governor revealed that the exercise was also meant to root out ghost workers in the County if at all they are there.

Rotich urged all employees, both at the headquarters and in the sub-counties, to participate in the exercise to ensure that all data is captured by the IHRM team.

The findings of the audit will be used to make recommendations to the Governor and his team for implementation.

The IHRM Team Leader Wycliffe Nyakina pledged to undertake a professional exercise devoid of any ill will and added that they would lay bare the facts as presented by staff in their final report.

The exercise is mandatory for all staff, and the IHRM team will require workers to avail themselves with documents to ascertain their positions.

Amos Omollo, a HRM consultant noted that the audit will also look into people with disability revealing that the process will also be used to weed out unqualified employees.

Omollo added that the audit will examine the wage bill in comparison with the government guidelines as set by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
