IGAD and EU Forge €4 Million Agreement to Boost Regional Development and Peace

DJIBOUTI CITY – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the European Union (EU) have formalized a €4 million financing agreement aimed at strengthening their partnership and supporting regional development and peace initiatives in the Horn of Africa.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, The agreement, signed by IGAD Deputy Executive Secretary Mohamed Abdi Ware and EU Ambassador to Djibouti and IGAD, Sylvie Tabesse, underscores the EU’s recognition of IGAD’s pivotal role in the region.

This financial backing is set to enhance IGAD’s capacity to tackle a range of challenges, including natural disasters, humanitarian crises, and peace and security issues. The collaboration reflects a mutual commitment to fostering stability, security, and development across the IGAD member states. “This Financing Agreement symbolizes the EU’s trust in IGAD’s capacity to drive positive change, reflecting their belief that supporting IGAD is an investment in a more peaceful and prosperous Horn of Africa,” was highlighted during the signing.
