Government Commits to Timely Disbursement of HELB Loans

Kisumu, Kenya – The Principal Secretary for Higher Education, Mr. Fredrick Ndambuki, has assured students and educational institutions of the government’s commitment to timely disbursement of funds by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). This statement was made during the graduation ceremony at Uzima University in Kisumu, where Ndambuki represented Education CS Ezekiel Machogu.

According to Kenya News Agency, there have been acknowledged delays in disbursing HELB funds in the past, but the government has now streamlined the process. “I want to mention that the delay in the disbursement of funds has been sorted out and is now on course, and before long all the learners will receive their monies,” he assured the attendees. He also noted that the government has made provisions to settle outstanding debts in various learning institutions, which have hampered their operations.

Ndambuki highlighted ongoing efforts to address the issue of pending bills in universities. He mentioned that vice chancellors are actively engaged in meetings to find solutions to clear these bills.

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, who also spoke at the event, pointed out the challenges faced by parents and learners in accessing HELB funds. He emphasized the complexity of the process and the confusion caused by the new funding model. Nyong’o called for a comprehensive sensitization program to educate potential beneficiaries on how to navigate the application process for these funds. He stressed the importance of making this information more accessible to students and parents to ensure they can fully benefit from the government’s educational support.
