Ram Joseph Kafando Assumes Governorship of Eastern Region in Fada N’Gourma


FADA N’GOURMA, BURKINA FASO — Civil administrator Ram Joseph Kafando was officially installed as the governor of the Eastern region this Thursday, in a ceremony led by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Security, Emile Zerbo. Appointed at the council of ministers on February 14, 2024, Kafando succeeds Colonel Hubert Yaméogo, marking a significant administrative transition in the region.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the inauguration event saw the participation of all constituted bodies, religious authorities, representatives of associative structures, and humanitarian organizations. The secretary general of the region, acting as spokesperson, commended Colonel Yaméogo for his leadership, listening skills, and dynamism during his tenure, despite the security challenges plaguing the region.



The outgoing governor was lauded for numerous accomplishments across education, health, and agriculture sectors under his guidance. Kafando, in his inaugural address, expressed gratitude to the highest authorities for their confidence in his capabilities to steer the administrative entity. He pledged to continue the path laid by his predecessor, emphasizing that administration is about continuity and collective responsibility.



Kafando highlighted the critical nature of the security situation in the Eastern region, underscoring the importance of collaborative effort among all regional components to ensure safety and stimulate development. He called for unity and synergy among the region’s active forces to promote local development.



The ceremony also served as an occasion to honor Colonel Hubert Yaméogo for his 40 years of dedicated service to the nation, as he steps into retirement effective December 10, 2023. Minister Emile Zerbo paid a heartfelt tribute to Yaméogo’s contributions before outlining the new missions for Kafando, signaling a hopeful future for the Eastern region under new leadership.
