African Development Bank Grants $33 Million to Mozambique for Electricity Network Improvement

On December 5, 2023, the African Development Bank Group’s Board of Directors approved a grant of USD 33.25 million to Mozambique. This grant, originating from the Transition Support Facility, is aimed at enhancing the reliability and security of Mozambique’s electricity supply and promoting regional integration of the electricity network and electricity trade.

According to Africa News Agency, The Songo-Matambo Transmission Line Project, which will benefit from this grant, is expected to facilitate important regional interconnections, including Mozambique-Malawi and Mozambique-Zambia. This initiative is a crucial step in strengthening the electricity infrastructure in Southern Africa and supporting the region’s economic development.
