Nyamira County Commissioner Warns Against Vandalism and Encroachment

Nyamira, Kenya – County Commissioner Onesmas Kyatha has issued a stern warning to residents of Nyamira County against vandalism of government infrastructure and encroachment on government land. This warning comes amidst increasing incidents of theft and damage to public property.

According to Kenya News Agency, there have been numerous complaints from residents and officials from Kenya Power regarding vandalism and theft of power lines and billing gadgets. Road engineers supervising the construction of various roads have also raised concerns about residents encroaching on road reserves, ignoring demarcations and beacons that clearly indicate boundaries.

Kyatha observed that such encroachments not only endanger the stability of road structures but also increase the risk of accidents due to obstructions affecting drivers’ visibility. He emphasized that the county has issued sufficient warnings and is now prepared to take immediate action against those who fail to comply.

The commissioner pointed out that power outages in the county, often caused by illegal connections and vandalism, have become a persistent issue, affecting all power users and complicating the work of Kenya Power in maintaining and reconstructing power lines.

Kyatha urged residents to protect government infrastructure, warning that any acts of theft or vandalism would lead to arrests and legal consequences. He stressed the importance of these infrastructures in facilitating daily life and business activities in the county.
