Gor Mahia Secures Victory Over Murang’a Seals at SportPesa Arena

MURANG’A—Gor Mahia triumphed 3-1 over Murang’a Seals in a pivotal match at St. Sebastian Park on Saturday. The encounter, part of the SportPesa Derby, saw a dynamic competition between the two teams, attracting numerous fans.

According to Kenya News Agency, the team captured an early advantage with a goal from Austin Othiambo but saw their lead equalized by John Kiplangat of Murang’a Seals before halftime. The second half was dominated by Gor Mahia with Benson Omalla scoring twice, once from a penalty and then again just minutes before the final whistle. Mackinstry praised the Seals for their energetic and aggressive play, which posed a significant challenge to his team. “We only need to keep winning to stay ahead of our competitors and look after ourselves, expecting our opponents to come full throttle,” Mackinstry noted. He also mentioned sustaining an ankle injury during halftime, which might sideline him for a few training sessions.

On the opposing side, Juma Abdalla, head coach of the Murang’a Seals, expressed satisfaction with his team’s resilience and growing confidence. “The boys played as we had trained. Although we missed a few chances, their overall performance was good as the players are now more confident,” Abdalla remarked, looking ahead to their next match against Tusker.

Willis Ojwang, SportPesa Communications Manager, commented on the significance of the match, highlighting it as a showcase of talent and a celebration of football, unity, and sportsmanship. The victory places Gor Mahia 12 points clear at the top of the division, gearing up for what is anticipated to be a challenging game against Shabana next week.
